Blessing Maama Uganda Development Association
Organization Overview
Blessing Maama Uganda Development Association (BMUDA) is a young disability-focused organization, formed to provide ongoing support to children with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities and their families.
Current activities include:
Family visits and support mobilization (medical care, etc)
Partnership support with local schools to promote inclusion
Collective advocacy with local and district leaders
Support small business income generating projects, especially for mothers of children with disabilities
The Action Plan
Our goal: Working in collaboration with additional US-based support partners, bring DSI's training to provide DSI's training focused on learning and behavior to build on current momentum and build capacity of teacher working with children with disabilities and education and disability-sector stakeholders in the Luweero District, Central Region.
Primarily, this project supports BMUDA's pilot project and partnership with Bugema Adventist Primary School, who hired 2 teachers and enrolled 10 students with disabilities in 2025.
"I found kindred spirits in Lydia Bantira Kibombo and her sister, Roy Baagala. Grief over the death of Lydia’s 1-year-old daughter, Blessing, led Roy to suggest reaching out to other parents of children with Down syndrome – like Blessing. The effort grew beyond the two women’s expectations. By the time I arrived, they had connected with dozens of families of children with Down syndrome and other disabilities, all in need of information and support."
