Ms. Seamhy DIN is a dedicated teacher at Phum Thmey Primary School in Kampong Speu Province, Cambodia. She has made it her life’s mission to ensure that no child is left behind, regardless of their abilities.

Seamhy’s motivation is simple yet powerful:
“I want to see children with disabilities learn, help themselves, and live with dignity, just like any other child.”
She firmly believes that every child has unique talents. The real challenge, she says, is providing them with the opportunities and support they need to shine.
Over the years, Seamhy has received specialized training and support from DSI and Rabbit School Organization, a longtime partner organization of DSI. She has worked tirelessly to develop her expertise on intellectual disabilities and autism, mastering strategies for managing behavior and communication, and learning inclusive teaching techniques.

With these skills, she has transformed her classroom into a safe, supportive space where children are learning to read, write, care for themselves, and better manage their emotions.
The results are impressive:
Children once unable to write are now proudly reading aloud.
Many children can now eat, dress, and bathe independently.
Severe behavioral problems have eased, creating a more welcoming learning environment.
However, challenges remain. Essential teaching materials are in short supply, and many children face disruptions to their learning due to illness or a lack of family support. Despite these hurdles, Seamhy’s goal remains clear.
She dreams of a future where all children with disabilities in Cambodia have access to quality education, healthcare, and vocational skills, empowering them to live independently and contribute to their communities with pride.

Seamhy’s story is a testament to the life-changing impact of a dedicated teacher.
With the right training, resources and community support, her work proves that inclusion is not just possible - it is transformative.
